Projects this semester

Prom

The prom posters and tickets took roughly 3 weeks of class time. The challenges I faced were more or less with the golden mask on the sides, it very rarely worked with me and made the project rougher to work on. Along the way I learned how crucial class time is due to me being sick several days. I had very little feedback during critique besides to fix my colors with the gold (which at the time was still silver because I hadn't figured out the gold yet).  just fixed the gold. Im still not happy with the quality the project came out with and wish it could've been better.

Magazine

During this project we interviewed a local graphic designer and had to create a magazine layout with their art feeling and design. this project took another 3 weeks as the last one. I struggled mainly with my creative output for graphics. the wording I was okay with, I always found a way to make it work. I learned how sometimes the art and feeling will soon present itself, along with to not trust the server... My feedback was mainly with the struggling for my creative output on the project. I couldn't really change anything on this project however because all my work was on the server then the server crashed. I loved this project and the free ability to understand another artist, however I hate the server.

Tactical advantage, fictional company

In this project we created a company that provided a service or item. For me t was a company that provided map overview for planning for games so teams could make "plays". We have spent the last 4 1/2 weeks (I believe) creating this company, the logo, the mockups, web ads, brochure, infographic, and proof of sign up along with the merchandise item. My merchandise item was a "exp package" that allowed the player a head start on the website to begin leveling up early on. I faced a huge challenge in the process for the "merchandise item". I had little to no idea on how to wrap up or even begin to create an item that stuck with the website and its ability. We never had a critique for this company (that I remember) and it was all on our own. So therefor I didn't change anything. My true emotion for this project would have to be this is one of the best projects I've done all year. It gave me the ability to take my own personal interests and turn it into a company. It was fantastic and I couldn't be happier. 

Use of time in Class

My time in class has been used to the best of my ability in my honest opinion, besides the days I was sick. I finished early on several parts of my last project, so I worked on several personal project for friends and clients. I personally did a lot of researching for inspiration for my projects and learning shortcut commands for the programs.

Strengths

My strengths would have to be in using my ideas to expand in multiple directions along with color choice, the world of colors and how well/ bad they can work together is beautiful.

Weaknesses

I need to slowly work on the understanding of fonts along with my creative field, I keep myself locked in a creative box and I need to get out and explore.

Summary

This semester I loved our last project the most out of anything. I wouldn't change anything besides having my favorite teacher back! My over-all takeaway of this semester? That sometimes you just have to give everything to your everything. My goal for next year is to come ready to do more and not hold back. Thank you for another magnificent year!

Projects

Name Typography

Our first project was a typography piece where we took an adjective of our name and created and searched for a font that matched the feel of our adjective. This project took us roughly two weeks to find create and mount our fonts and projects. Some challenges I faced were trying tome and be more creative than the original fonts. It was incredibly difficult coming back from summer break and having to open up my creativity again. I learned how to search more creatively and think outside the box of my original thoughts. Some of the feedback I received was mostly from my teacher, she pushed me to better myself and continue to think more creatively and to challenge myself. After my feedback I had to travel back into my fonts and search for more in depth meaning for the fonts and words we used. I throughly enjoyed this project, it was fun to come back from the break and to be pushed hard to better myself and my creativity.

Hand Written Typography Card

Our second project was a hand written greeting card. This project also took us another two weeks. Another one of the challenges I faced again in my font style, and I didn't extremely differ the font I was using. I was still trying to better myself in my font use and my font style, I used a different font style that matched my project. I just needed to work on differ my idea and font because that was the main idea on the project. The feedback I was given was from my teacher and my classmates, my classmates liked my idea and loved the roses, my teacher again pushed me to better myself and pushed my to become a better graphic artist. She wanted me to concentrate on the font style and the layout, she also helped me better place my roses into the font rather than next to it. I lived this project also, we had freedom to choose what we wanted to do and how we wanted to execute it. On top of that I got to show my love for roses in my project because it matched the cards feeling.

Fictional Branding A Company-NT Jewelry

Our final project was to make a fictional brand for a company. This project was inspired by 4 different things we were given, they were an animal, a number, two letters (mine being NT), and a mineral. This project took us three weeks. I faced a lot of challenges, in my past few years I have rarely touched photoshop. So when I had to lay out my logo onto my company store, or the merchandise. Even onto the uniform of my company it wasn't the easiest, I had to again edit my project to make sure these things when how I wanted them too. I learned a lot with photoshop and my layout process. I was given a little feedback on my process, it was mainly from those sitting next to me on little tips for the layout process and the designing. I only changed things when I asked them on how to do certain things. I enjoyed this project, I actually ended up going home and speaking with my mother and father about the project. 

Self Review

Time Usage

My time use in class i would consider very well spent except for my first few days, at the start of the semester i was watching YouTube, etc. in class, and it was a terrible use of time. However after that i felt like i devoted myself to my projects fully. Even if i felt like i was done, id always ask for advice or ways to better my work. If my classmates didn't have any advice then i went to my teacher, if nothing was there i continued to better my mock-ups and project presentation on behance this year. Outside of class this year i worked with a few in school projects for other classes or people that needed them. including helping a group in the video department of e-comm and helping h.y.p.e. with their open mic poster. 

Strengths and Weaknesses

I think that i have two major strengths and weaknesses as a graphic designer. My strength i think would be hand drawn projects, such as the roses, in which i had the ability to do what i wanted when i wanted to do it. However my major weakness would have to be finding the right font, i personally struggle with the understanding of font and weight in groups of text, however i'm working on it.

Summary

The thing i would have to say i loved most about this semester was finally getting to mount our final project after spending a lot of time on it. This semester i think i should've definitely spent my first few days in class more wisely and not trying to push the limits of what i could do. My over all learning from this semester would have to be my growth in all the areas from typography, to font choice, my improvement in Photoshop and scanning things in. My goal for next semester is to use my time more wisely and better myself on font choice. Overall i think this is the most fun ive ever had in a graphic design class ever. Ive defenitly learned more with my teacher than any other has ever taught me.

I was slowly taught how to use my technology and programs This will follow me through the rest of my career Yes, Learning how to use this in my best way possible took me a long time with many many mistakes.

Collaboration |  

During the team projects or helping others around me. Person skills are something you will need for the rest of your life. no, I've been a people person all my life.

Communication |  

i didn't learn how to speak or communicate, I've done it since i could talk. communication will follow me through all of life. and its something i will need til the day i die. i never faced a challenge in communicating with others.

Project Management |  

I learned how to manage my projects using folders to hold each project or other folders to separate raw files from finished project, or based off of the application i was using. This is important because you will always need good management no matter what job or career you take. i never faced a challenge in managing my projects, I've always been a very organized person.

Leadership | 

i didn't have to learn anything about leadership, I've always been a good leader and naturally take lead. leadership makes a better person because leading isn't very easy, it takes a strong person to lead an entire crew or team. i never faced a challenge with leadership however, I've always been a leader in almost everything i do.

My Strengths or Weaknesses

I have improved mainly in my technology skills, i came into this class knowing almost nothing about molding or animation itself. However i still have a lot of places to better myself on my work ethic and work skills. With everything I've learned I'm going to take it into the real world for my future careers. How ever i wouldn't change anything about what I'm going to take into the world. 

The Year Overlook

My year has been extremely fun have enjoyed it all throughly. My relationships have been interesting that i have made, i have gotten many friends and created amazing bonds with my teachers. Roughly a week per project was needed for completion.

What Have I Done In Class?

11x17 poster

the 11x17 poster was okay, i didn't enjoy having to lookup everything on bauhaus but it was a interesting poster and history behind him and the school. i didn't get any feedback or change anything , i thought this was okay.

Typography 5x5

The typography 5x5 was 4 quote posters that i very throughly enjoyed. However i felt like my fellow students didn't use comment sense when explaining tips to me when giving me constructive criticism. I used color to separate words that weren't together, or even facing the wrong way. they still couldn't see that. i didn't change anything. i loved this project to death. 

Combination Mark Logo

The combination mark logo took us roughly a week, i Haven't found any challenges in this project. Along the way i have learned about how to successfully combine a logo and a word mark. i received feedback about my first and sixth logo, they were seen as my strongest two. i didn't change hardly anything. this was fun.

Business Card

The business card took us roughly a week, i had to move and change some of my information. Along the way i have learned about how to successfully make a business card using my logo and word mark. i received feedback about my information. i didn't change anything. this was interesting.

Letter Head

The letterhead took us roughly a week also, i Haven't found any challenges in this project. Along the way i have learned about how to successfully use my combined mark to creat a professional looking paper. i didn't change anything. I enjoyed this project.

Envelope

The envelope took us roughly a week, i Haven't found any challenges in this project. Along the way i have learned about how to successfully use my logo to create a professional looking envelope. i didn't change anything.

Time In Class

good. i continued to work and find ways to improve my work. i have worked with several actual clients outside of school to better myself. 

i have strengths in realizing fonts and color use.

my areas of improvement need to be that i don't allow myself to get distracted at easy.

Marks/Symbols

What have i learned?

i knew most of this already since i had experience working with multiple clients before hand. However i have learned a few new things, i did not know that up and too the right was more appealing to the eye rather then down or too the left. One thing i have been doing yet never realizing it, is i have always been allowing the logo to breath and never trapping it.

Difference between symbol & a logo?

The difference between a symbol and a logo is that a symbol is something much smaller, that can be used multiple times and represents more than one area of interest. A logo is something that represents a company.

3 Facts I've learned

3 things I've learned is that almost any logo can be used as a copyrighted logo. There is intact a difference between a logo and a symbol. and that there are 6 different types of marks.

This quote was one of my grandfathers favorites before he passed. making this poster was a hard time for me because i had so many memories of him while i was creating it. I wanted to finish it however. So i devoted myself to it. he always told me to do my best, and good things will be achieved. Thats what this quote has came to do.

This next quote was my personal favorite. my goal in life was to and still is to do my best to succeed and progress in life. The gold represents the success and the white on black provides a cleaner look to the modern more successful side of things

Summary

The character and function of a poster

Posters are meant to show and attract the eye to a topic of c choice using arts or information of such, Along with showing points of government, communal, political situations, and solutions to problems. Connections between the producer and consumer are also important, it has to be of importance or have a visual appeal to bring a feeling of want among the consumer.

The laws of poster designing

A poster should grab the viewers attention, not like a paint brush on a easel but like a thief going through a window with a crowbar. it should grab the viewers attention in a matter of a second, very quick. Forcing the viewer to create a connection between the viewer and the poster.

General demands of poster design

legible, must arise interest and be innovative, max affect, large so its affective at a distance, should remain in the memory of the viewer.

Lettering in poster design

Where the lettering is placed changes all of the affect of the poster, it must have a good visual appeal and that forces the viewer to like the poster.

Shapes in poster designing

shapes should be clean and proper, overlapping shapes create a field of depth and perception changes.  This allows the poster to be more visually appealing and create a cleaner affect and appeal.

color can decide the atmosphere, color can also give impressions of rhythm. Color is your main communicator  of feeling and vibes.

Portfolio Reflection

Tiny Box Tim Walk-Cycle

In this project i learned how to create a walk cycle. I learned how to create the cycle through a step by step process demonstrated by my teacher. I chose this project because it was one of my first and also one of the funnest. My strengths and weaknesses were in the main creation, my background wouldn't fit with the scene but i got it to fix, but the creation of the walk cycle was rather fun and easy. I wouldn't change anything. I overall favor this project over them all.

Hammer

The hammer was another good project. I earned how to smoothly bend and split materials with maya. I once again learned through step by step process. I chose this project as #2 because it was my second best in creation along with the nails. I didn't have any weaknesses with this project and my strength was in the lighting of the scene. Im going to take this into my future of game molding in game creation. i wouldn't change the project and i overall enjoyed this project.

Ice Cream

I chose the ice cream next because it shows many weaknesses in this project. I struggled with the texting and color with this project, i couldn't put textures in my ice cream and i couldn't put the wood texture on my table. I have learned how to struggle with weaknesses in the project... I wouldn't change anything with how i learned, just my creation process, because i struggled.

Cup

The cup was extremely simple and it was the easiest project. all we had to do was outline the cup and circulate it and nada you have the cup. It was very simple and there wasn't any room for weaknesses or strengths in this project.

Pen

I learned how to model something that was right in front of me. I taught myself the creation of this project. I chose this as my final one because it was the first project it seemed as it was just here. good luck! And it was a decent creation on my behalf. I didn't have any weaknesses but i had strengths towards the main creation for the pen. I wouldn't change anything an throughout this year i have enjoyed this class deeply.

Tiny Box Tim and Sniccers

Scope and Process

The Main idea of this project was too create a project with a start climax and resolution. My process for creating this project was that i created a story board and my idea of this project always changed. i went from going on a adventure to look for a missing sniccers, to just having them escape together and go on a adventure together.

Production

I learned a lot with keeping all the art boards the same size and putting multiple animations together in order to create one large animation. This technically was a pain because some of my art boards were blurry during animation and pre-production

differences and likes in Work

I would have set my story board up different before hand so i wasn't aways changing, but no rough draft is perfect. However, i would also want to keep the post production the same, in the story boarding process and the creation of scenes.

My Experience

i Loved this project with a love hate relationship, because i had a lot of struggles with my art boards and i changed my story board several times, but overall i liked the project.

Projects for the semester

Photoshop challenge.

This project was a photos tutorial we did at the beginning of the year. it took roughly a week. I got through all of it pretty easy, i faced no challenges. i learned a lot however, especially with photoshop. I received no feedback and i changed nothing. I didn't care for the project however.

Self portrait

The self portrait was designed in adobe illustrator making a copy of ourselves using the pen. it took roughly a few days to complete. i faced challenges with my face however. I learned how to fix it however. Nothing changed in the project. I didn't care for the project but it was fun.

Fall Postcard

The fall postcard was extremely fun for me, getting to use my imagination was great i enjoyed this project a lot. It took roughly a week and a half. and i faced no challenges, i overcame all difficulties. People loved it too!

Raccoon

The raccoon was in the fall postcard it was my main animal, i designed it and i enjoyed it because i got to turn mine into a little baby raccoon. It took about a week to design in the step by step process. I was have feedback by skylar with the pacifier the baby has.

The infographic i also enjoyed. I got to choose a topic of my choice and design it as i wished. I had a lot of feedback with my infographic, such as colors, percent signs, and text color. i changed it all and I've always enjoyed the constructive criticism.

Personal Logo

The personal logo i have been wanting to make since about sixth grade and I've been decided on it for years! i enjoyed playing it so much, it was my favorite smaller project all year. I received no feedback and i changed nothing with this project, but i did struggle with my lettering and the circle size for social media.

time usage

Ive used my time in class other well, handling my classes, grades, clients, and my job all from my class time. I stay rather productive, however i will admit i got sidetracked at moments. its no secret.. What i do to enhance myself is i work with actual clients outside of class time and make their work that they request during my time.

Strengths

I have strengths in art and creative flow, i never have to backtrack i man usage of all of my work an mistakes, because i believe flaws give personality. This enhances my skills as a designer because i no longer have to worry about my work and mistakes because i work through my flaws and mistakes to help better myself.

Weaknesses

My weaknesses exist in being limited on a project. i don't like having to be stuck to a exact detail. however i do enjoy working with clients and their work, because a logo os more than a idea. its a story for every person.

Summary

i loved the self logo the most this semester. I would change the fact that on some projects we were limited this year. I am taking away a lot of knowledge this semester, i have gotten to express so much this semester and I've loved this class. my goal is to continue to grow and learn more. This project we designed a hammer along with nails, but instead i chose to put my nails in the bottom plane to appear as if they have been nailed into the plane. to give the hammer a more appealingly realistic feeling.

This was a objective of creating a circle that had 4 open sides and this was our first project with lighting during rendering. Its turned out over the next few projects to be extremely fun to work with lighting and angling of the shadows!

Building Process

I started with the towers, after making my 4 towers i made one wall and double sided it then put them along the 4 sides, carved the front entrance and made a inside castle. After that i created the mote and the bridge along with the water. This project allowed us to expand our creativity and usage among molding this castle. i learned how to use pictures over the sides and the different parts of the castle.

we created each separate object one at a time before putting it all together, then we shaded and colored it all, before adding lights. Doing tis project i learned hot to texture, group, and the difference in the two color options.

11x17 infographic

This is a gaming infographic, i chose gaming because as a youtube. it is very dear to my heart and my day to day life. My research was simple, i just spent my time researching what was least known among the gaming community. for example how much of the gang community is female, or what games are most popular? My wire frame and lay out.... was accidental... I just put a lot together and created what came to be this infograpfic. My process in creating this was super fun, a lot of extreme creationism. My feedback was both with and against my infographic, however mostly positive! This has been my 11x17 infographic.

Tiny box tim has always been a character with me, so i used tuckers sniccers bar (with his permission) and made them long lost friends as he looks for his friend and finally re-unites with him.

Castle

This castle was created in a few days, i started by forming the towers, i ran into some challenges when working with the top of the towers, but i resolved them by re-creating the towers. The walls are simple and double paneled and the tops counter each other. there is a mote and some grass inside the castle.

first i started by creating the towers and the tops of the towers and pulling up section of the towers then created the grass, the mote, the inner building, and finished by putting the inner towers on and raised them taller than the other towers in the creation.
